Highland Adventure

The Enthralling Central Highlands

Journey into Vietnam's misty highlands — from the flower-filled streets of Dalat to thundering waterfalls, coffee plantations, and remote ethnic villages.

Tour Overview

Vietnam's Central Highlands remain one of the country's best-kept secrets — a world of pine-forested mountains, dramatic waterfalls, and fertile plateaus where some of the world's finest coffee is grown. This six-day adventure takes you from the charming French-colonial hill station of Dalat to the sprawling coffee capital of Buon Ma Thuot, passing through landscapes and communities rarely visited by tourists.

Meet ethnic-minority groups such as the Ede and M'nong, visit a traditional longhouse, explore misty lakes, and taste freshly roasted robusta at a working plantation. With cooler temperatures, stunning scenery, and an off-the-beaten-track atmosphere, the Central Highlands offer a completely different side of Vietnam.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Dalat Arrival

Fly into Lien Khuong Airport and transfer to Dalat, the "City of Eternal Spring," nestled at 1,500 meters above sea level. Spend the afternoon exploring this charming hill station — stroll through the flower gardens, visit the Crazy House, and soak up the cool mountain air. As evening falls, head to the bustling night market for grilled meats, soy milk, and strawberry jam made from locally grown fruit. Check into your lakeside hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner of highland specialties.

Day 2 — Waterfalls & Countryside

Venture out of Dalat to discover the region's spectacular waterfalls. Begin at Datanla Falls, where you can ride an alpine coaster through the forest to the cascade below. Continue to the thundering Elephant Falls, hidden behind a moss-covered cliff face, and then visit Pongour Falls — the widest waterfall in the highlands, tumbling over a natural staircase of basalt rock. Between stops, drive through rolling countryside dotted with greenhouses, vegetable farms, and coffee bushes. Return to Dalat for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3 — Buon Ma Thuot

Depart Dalat and drive north through changing landscapes to Buon Ma Thuot, the coffee capital of Vietnam. Along the way, stop at ethnic-minority villages where the Ede people live in traditional wooden longhouses. Visit a community hall to learn about their matrilineal customs, music, and weaving. Arrive in Buon Ma Thuot by late afternoon and explore the Ethnographic Museum, which provides an excellent introduction to the diverse cultures of the Central Highlands.

Day 4 — Lak Lake & Elephant Village

Drive south to beautiful Lak Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in the Central Highlands, surrounded by mountains and M'nong villages. Take a dugout canoe across the mirror-still lake to visit Jun Village, where the M'nong people have a centuries-old tradition of elephant taming. Learn about the community's deep cultural connection to elephants and the conservation efforts now in place. Enjoy lunch in a stilted longhouse overlooking the water, then return to Buon Ma Thuot.

Day 5 — Coffee Plantations

Dedicate the day to Vietnam's most famous export — coffee. Visit a working robusta plantation where you will walk among rows of coffee bushes, learn about the cultivation and harvesting process, and watch beans being sorted, roasted, and ground by hand. Enjoy a tasting session comparing different roast profiles and brewing methods, from drip filter to egg coffee. In the afternoon, visit the World Coffee Museum in Buon Ma Thuot and pick up bags of freshly roasted beans to take home. Enjoy a farewell dinner at a local highland restaurant.
